PFP’s Winning Missing Middle Submission!
ParkFowler Plus is excited to announce that our submission for the Six-Flat category has been selected as the winner of the Come Home Missing Middle Infill Housing Competition! Our entry was one of 56 from firms nationwide invited to propose innovative design solutions for density infill housing in underserved Chicago neighborhoods.
This competition provided an opportunity for PFP to leverage our expertise in enhancing the resident experience. Our design addresses the typical six-flat’s limitations with natural light by splitting and rotating the apartment orientation. The addition of a central courtyard shifts the focus to an open, shared space, significantly increasing the usable façade and enhancing the overall quality of life for residents.
This competition runs parallel with the launch of the City of Chicago’s Department of Planning and Development’s Missing Middle Infill Housing Initiative. Aiming to revitalize vacant land and develop affordable, mid-density housing in underserved communities, this initiative offers 44 city-owned lots in North Lawndale for development at a cost of $1 each.
