Tasked with designing a box for a bottle of Aberlour whiskey and inspired by the City of Chicago, Distilled Chicago Icon pays homage to one of Chicago’s most recognizable landmarks, Bertrand Goldberg’s Marina City Towers in the form of a container for scotch.
Aberlour, a prominent Scotch whisky distillery, collaborated with the Design Museum of Chicago to host the Designing Louder Than Words Bottle Box Design Competition. Local architects and designers were asked to design a box, inspired by the city of Chicago, that safely holds a bottle of scotch. Our design was one of ten selected as finalists for the competition.
Practical, innovative, and made for Chicago’s middle class, the towers represent the aspirations of Chicago in architectural form. In this interpretation, constructed of translucent injection molded plastic, just enough light passes through the case to reveal the golden glow of the single malt scotch within.
